This year has been all about positivity and healthy eating for me and my family. So far, unlike most New Years Resolutions, I have managed to maintain most of the good habits going. The thing I have found about these healthy eating habits is that it is all in the preparation and planning. I meal plan each week and stick to it. I batch cook lunches and some dinners to make things quicker and easier to maintain. And I keep looking out for new ways and helpful tips to keep up my good habits.
Batch Cooking and Making Things From Scratch
There are a lot of myths around cooking from scratch such as it’s more expensive, it takes lots of time, it’s really difficult. If you have absolutely no cooking skills at all then it may not be easier, but generally all of those myths just aren’t true. Tomato soup is quick and easy to make, plus gram for gram it really is cheaper to make it yourself if you buy the right ingredients. The same goes for bread. It is cheaper to make at home yourself. The only off putting thing with bread is that it is super time consuming, unless you use a Bread maker. There are some really good Bread Makers on the market these days which make life so much easier. You can add all your ingredients and just let the bread maker do it’s thing.
As for Batch Cooking, this is only time consuming if you do it outside of normal cooking times. Usually I will batch cook something like a chilli whilst I am cooking our dinner for that night as it can be left relatively unattended. Or I will simply make more than I need of a particular meal with the idea of freezing some for a later date. Now special effort is made and I always thank myself for it at the end of a really busy day.
Bread Maker Recipes
For this post I wanted to compile a selection of recipes that can be made using a bread maker that make cooking quicker and easier, which is especially welcome midweek after the school run. Not all recipes are for bread, but all can be made with a bread maker.
This delicious pizza dough recipe is so simple and cheap with only 5 basic ingredients needed. Of course as with most recipes, it works of made by hand, but the bread maker makes it so easy.
This tear and share bread recipe can be filled with anything you like, it is completely up to your own personal tastes. I would always opt for garlic butter as it would be a huge hit in the Winnettes house.
Chocolate Chip Brioche Rolls
These sweet delights are a little more expensive to make than some of the other recipes due to the chocolate content. However they are still cheaper than the chocolate brioche rolls you can buy in the supermarkets.
Think delicious sweet treats can’t be made in a bread maker? Think again with this recipe.
Sugar Free Cinnamon Raisin Bread
The perfect after school sweet treat as it doesn’t actually contain any sugar and super easy to make! Get the recipe HERE.
