For the Spring/Summer 2018 season I want to create my daughters a capsule wardrobe. The joys of a capsule wardrobe done well are the reduction in washing, the impact on the environment and the ease of getting them both dressed in the mornings.

Washing Reduction

I don’t know anyone who likes doing laundry. My least favourite part of it is the putting away at the end. I currently do the laundry once a week which may seem like bliss to some. But because I have left it so long the volume of laundry is immense. My ‘once a week’ washing actually takes me two days to complete. With capsule wardrobes I may need to have two laundry days a week but the volume won’t seem as daunting and in actual fact I am just spreading the work load.

Impact On The Environment

If you opened my daughters wardrobes you would wonder why on Earth I am writing a post about creating a capsule wardrobe for kids. Anyone would think we had bought most of the high street due to the amount of clothes they each have. Ellie’s wardrobe is made up of old and new clothes. Some fit some don’t. Trixie’s is the same, including an abundance of hand me downs from her big sister. Most of these are about to be thrown away as they are not in a good enough condition to give away. Truthfully I am embarrassed by the amount of fabric about to go in the bin. It can’t be good for the environment and whilst the council have a separate fabric collection I actually have no idea what happens to it all.

The Morning Routine

With so much choice and with two little ladies who demand to choose their own outfits for the day it can take us a long time to get ready in the mornings (thank goodness for school uniforms!). By reducing possible outfit options it won’t take as long to get ready.

How To Make A Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe should be minimal but not lacking. Each item should match the others so that things are interchangeable. We like patterns in this house so to ensure there are no major clashes I keep all bottoms and jumpers plain and all tops and dresses with a pattern. A kids capsule wardrobe should include about 12-14 items not including underwear or shoes.

Girls Spring/Summer 2018 Capsule Wardrobe

I have found 4 tops, 3 bottoms, 4 dresses and 2 cardigans to complete the capsule wardrobe. I have gone dress heavy as both of my daughters like to wear dresses. However if you child is less keen on dresses then I would recommend 6 tops, 5 bottoms, 1 dress and 2 cardigans.

Tops

Who doesn’t love Flamingos? Monsoon Flamingo Top

Primark Tops (Pack of 2) means two tops that will match anything in one pack. Win win.

I love this M&Co Tiger Top

Bottoms

I am keeping bottoms simple with these Monsoon Blue Leggings, Monsoon Pink Shorts and Monsoon Pink Tutu Skirt

Dresses

M&S Rainbow Dress and the Floral Dress are just beautiful.

The Monsoon Pink Dress is so light and pretty.

River Island have some beautiful Girls Dresses in at the moment. I chose this gorgeous red floral one:

Cardigans

I have chosen the purple top from M&S and the Pink Cardigan from Primark.

Love the Monsoon stuff in particular but then I always do and my brother used to do merchandising for them years and years ago. and I used to get freebies as a result. My 13 year old suddenly has lost her interest in fashion but that won’t stop me getting her lovely things #ThursdayTeam

A great idea! And i have to agree, I hate having to put all that washing away at the end. With three children with more clothes EACH than me, my life is tough! #ThursdayTeam

We love dresses in this house. They are so girly and fit unlike skirts. #ThursdayTeam

I’m a big fan of Monsoon for girls. Some shops now make girls clothing way too grownup but they never do this. I love it. Such a great selection. #ThursdayTeam
