No matter how much you want to start eating healthily, there’s one thing that’s probably stopping you: does all that healthy food actually taste good? We all have memories of boring salads from when we were younger that consisted pretty much entirely of a handful of iceberg lettuce and a few slices of tasteless tomato – so it can be hard to work out how exactly to create a healthy diet that we’ll enjoy as well. Luckily there are a few easy things that you can do – read on for some tips!
Eat Organic Produce
First of all, it’s time to start investing in organic produce. Organic fruits and vegetables might be a little more expensive and sometimes – let’s face it – a little misshapen, but the truth is that they’re much more free of chemicals than other produce out there, and they’re also a lot more full of taste. Go one step further and buy produce from local stores and farms, which will make your carbon footprint a lot more insignificant as well as the produce will have travelled a much shorter distance to get from you! Finally, make sure you buy animal products from companies that assure you that the animals haven’t suffered and that they lived good lives – this will be good for your peace of mind and also the taste of your dinner plate.
Invest In Your Spice Rack
The best way to add flavour to your diet is by investing in a great quality spice rack – and, of course, a huge range of spices to go in it. Chili can brighten up a lot of meals, from curry to smashed avocado on toast, and there are a lot of other herbs like bay leaves, peppercorns, cayenne pepper, cloves, thyme and paprika that you must invest in. You could also grow your own little herb garden outside your kitchen window – or even inside, if the area gets plenty of sun. Go for basil, lavender, mint and rosemary as starters – not only do they smell incredible every time you rub the leaves between your fingers, but you’ll feel very pleased with yourself every time you cook with them.
Combine Your Flavours
If you’ve never been particularly creative when it comes to cooking, now is the time to start. Pineapple on pizza might not be your thing but there are plenty of food and flavour combinations out there that you’ve never heard of and that might just taste incredible – for instance, try out strawberry salsa! Take Inspiration From Other Cultures
If you’re really not sure how to get creative with your cooking, it could be time to take inspiration from other cultures. Take your family out to restaurants that you’ve never been to before, and try out Thai food, Indian food, tapas, sushi, burritos – not only will you have a whole lot of excellent family time surrounded by incredible food but you’ll probably also find yourself inspired when it comes to your own cooking.
