Shortbread is one of the easiest things to make. It contains very few ingredients and takes very little prep or cooking. Over the years of increasing my baking and trying to strive for bigger and better I often forget about the basics. And then when I do remember the basics I often like to jazz them up. The best thing about baking shortbread is that I can make it plain and normal, which is very yummy, or I can add some flavour but the main recipe doesn’t change. Of course as I made these in December I couldn’t resist making Chocolate Chip and Orange Shortbread.

If you don’t want the chocolate or orange simply don’t add them to the recipe. Or if there are other flavours you would like to try then just add them in accordingly.

Pure Indulgence

To go with these shortbreads, because they weren’t indulgent enough, I also made a salted caramel fudge sauce to dip them in.

Certainly not intentionally. I don’t use his sweet recipes as I am not a huge fan of his food in general. I quite like his 15 minute meals but that is all. This is just the basic shortbread I make so it doesn’t completely fall apart and then I simply added chocolate and orange as it was Christmas at the time. Not the most original flavour combination I admit but certainly not a deliberate copy.
