Using Flowers to Fall in Love with Instagram Again

I am using flowers to fall back in love with Instagram. Flower photography is reigniting my artistic inspiration and i am sharing it all on Instagram.

I love Instagram. I have always loved Instagram. Alongside Pinterest it is where my passion truly lays and much of that is due to how photography based they both are as platforms. It is hard to ignore all the talk on social media about Instagram and the algorithm. Of course I have listened, watched and been disheartened by it all. It is time for me to take my Instagram back. It is time for me to get my passion back. I often have flowers in the house and I adore photographing them. Today it hit me; I need to use flowers to fall back in love with Instagram.

Loosing the Love of Instagram

Since I decided to take blogging more seriously I have struggled to be happy with my Instagram. I want to find a ‘theme’ and a niche but when my interests and blogging subjects cover a wide variety of topics that is hard. Whilst I enjoy taking picture of my girls (how could I not they are gorgeous; and yes I am bias!) and whilst I enjoy seeing other peoples family photos they aren’t all I like. This is mostly why I don’t want my feed to be all about them. I want to be about all of us, about our lives and the story I choose to tell in the little squares Instagram gives me.

The last week I have been on a little hunt for some beautiful varied feeds to follow and stalk get inspiration from and there are so many out there. I feel fired up and positive about it all again. I care so much less about the algorithm and I have a plan and a goal, I have focus.

Using Flowers to Fall in Love with Instagram Again

During the summer I was asked to be an ambassador for Bloom & Wild. How could I say no? Their flowers are beyond beautiful. Or at least that is how they look on social media. I had to find out for myself if their letterbox flowers lived up to the pictures. As a user of Photoshop and Lightroom and I am very aware of how things can be ‘filtered’. Well let me very quickly say: The flowers exceeded my expectations (and they were high).

As you can see I have got some beautiful pictures of their flowers so far and I have even more planned.

Hubby Helps

As well as Bloom & Wild my Husband is an absolute gem and often buys me flowers. Actually, truth be told he wasn’t too impressed that Bloom & Wild had been in touch as he thought it would take the emphasis off any flowers he bought. But it is hard to over shadow a romantic gesture just when you need a boost in mood.

The best thing about flowers is they are around all year and I don’t actually have to buy them to photograph them. Although the outside flowers may disappear over winter there is still beauty to be found and it isn’t long before the spring time buds start appearing again.

Currently I am concentrating on minimal flat lays and simple bunches but over time I hope to add a few more details and a few general interior and exterior shots. I can see the evolution and improvement of my photos and much of that is because the fire of passion has finally found its way back to me and that is all thanks to flowers.

Be What You Want To Be

I believe there is a place for everyone on Instagram and before all types of bloggers get upset about it all I don’t care if your photo is a hot mess, an amalgamation of mayhem and dust or beautifully laid out, thought about, heavily edited and verging on ‘false advertising’. Each have their own merit and tell a unique story. I am about to head down the route of the latter and I appreciate that type of photo isn’t for everyone. I want my little squares to showcase my evolution of photography, however my captions will always tell the story of our daily lives, warts and all. I hope you can join me to see how I get on.

  1. What a gorgeous post! I love flowers so much and these are stunning. Your pictures make them all look so pretty. I’m quite new to Insta so not really clear on the algorithm irritation that people have been talking about but like you I love to look at other people’s beautiful feeds. X #bigpinklink

    1. I have been loving Instagram for a few years but it really isn’t the same platform that I first used. Change can be good and in some ways it is much better but in others I find it disheartening in a way I never did before. Time to remember it isn’t that important in life and to have fun again 😉

  2. I adore your Instagram! I especially loved the shot of eyes up with orange petals scattered in your hair – absolutely gorgeous. I am just like you – so many interests – but I don’t want to lose sight of why I’m on Instagram – to photograph things I find beautiful or fun or poignant. So I’m trying to make my photography a little better, but ultimately I’m also trying to look like your gorgeous profile and others that I completely crush on! #bigpinklink

    1. Thank you so much! It is always nice to have such lovely comments. I am by no means an expert but I have started to realise that the more fun I have doing ‘my thing’ the more people like my photos. I think there is a place for everything and, for me, posting too many ‘real life’ shots doesn’t make me happy and I think it shows. On the flip side I follow accounts that I adore that do post that but you can tell they are having fun doing their thing. Just be you, do what you enjoy (sod everyone else) and your passion will shine through X x

  3. Oooh i love the prettiness and colour of this post. The flowers are stunning. I am lucky to have two lots of flowers in my house currently as my best mate bought me some and a mum bought me some for face painting at her sons party. I love having flowers in the house. The Bloom and Wild arrangements are special though. My instagram is a mixture of everything with no real theme or style. I use Instagram much more than my Facebook page, twitter or even writing actual blog posts and fear if I tried to style it, I wouldn’t use it as much because it would take more time. I’ve followed you on insta 🙂

    1. Thanks Becky. I’ll go and find your account. I definitely use it more than my blog or anything else but personally styling it has made it more fun again. I am also trying to find more writing time so trying to be more structured with my approach in general. It works some days not others 😉

  4. What a lovely post. I couldn’t agree more. My Instagram is definitely a mix of all sorts of topics, and I swoon daily over those beautiful accounts with a theme, but alas that will never be me. I change daily as to whether I prefer saturated images or muted tones so I know i’d never be able to stick with a theme for a long period of time! here’s to us mixed up insty accounts keeping it real in those little squares!

  5. I love your Instagram feed hon and I love the way you are using flowers as a theme – you are so lucky to have such a plentiful supply! Thanks for linking this up to #coolmumclub love a bit of Insta inspo xoxo

    1. Aw thank you. I am trying to keep them out of every photo 😉 but I like them being present. Just need sainsburys to improve their selection now!

    1. Thank you. It has taken me a long time to get to this point. Flowers have always been something I have some back to. Now I realise that is what I love photographing x

  6. The flowers and the photos are gorgeous. I have liked quite a few of your pics on Instagram, they are lovely. You have a lovely hubby too, what a sweetheart buying you flowers x

  7. I’m so pleased you’re finding your Instagram love again! Although I’ve always loved your feed, but I completely know what you mean. I’ve taken a slightly different approach lately too, and it’s helped me find the love for it again. Sometimes a change can really help to inspire you. I love all your floral pictures lately, Bloom and Wild are fabulous aren’t they? I always love getting a box in the post! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

  8. Love this post! I too have fallen out of love with Instagram and after speaking to some people about the direction I want to go in and them giving me the confidence I hoping to make some changes which will make me love it again. Your feed is always beautiful. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

    1. I hope you can enjoy it again. So many people have started to hate it which is such a shame when it used to be such a favourite. I have relaxed my attitude to it and it is so much more fun x

    1. Take you time with it and have fun. Your personality will soon shine through. The more I thought about it the more I hated it and I think it showed x

  9. I find Instagram the hardest to find time for if I’m honest. I wish I had the time to take more pictures, it’s something I need to concentrate more on.These pictures are lovely. #sharingthebloglove

    1. Thank you. I think it is different strokes for different folks. I love it but find twitter so dull, yet know others that love it x

  10. Wow, what gorgeous flowers. I couldn’t believe I wasn’t following you already but I am now! I fell out of love with Insta but the other month I just went sod it, it’s about me not them and who they decide to show my pictures too. Plus after hearing Harriot, from Toby & Roo, talk at Blog On I do feel reinvigorated and have a strategy. I look forward to seeing all your new creations. #sharingthebloglove

    1. Aw thanks Jo. I have followed you for a while, I love your feed. I have always enjoyed your Instagram Roundups on the blog. I wish I had made it blog on. Hopefully next year.
